The landscape is an allegory of memory. Distinct landscape features, upon which the gaze lingers, become caught in memory. The curve of the horizon. A rocky gorge in the cut of the valley. From each feature an image unfolds, into places where the eye cannot reach. A translucent memory. A thread of imagination winds. The river. It carries grains of memory one by one, down the stream of imagination.

The riverbed determines the character of the surrounding landscape of the Vanguard project. The Vanguard skyscraper is a vertical in the valley of the Vltava. The view from the roof towards the south reveals rocky slopes. A relief of the banks, where the meander of the river bends around the valley in the distance. A swimmer on his back surveys fragments of memories, composing an image of the landscape. From the view from above, the sky is not entirely real, it glows in the dark.

The light sculpture MEANDR – a relief from slumped glass – was created especially for the Vanguard project. The author of the design is sculptor Matěj Hájek, the realization was carried out under the direction of SKULL Studio and in cooperation with the experts from Lasvit Fusing. MEANDR is placed in the ceiling above the water surface of the pool in the underground spa. The subject is the topography of the Vltava riverbed in the area of Vrané nad Vltavou. A landscape situation that is within sight from the highest floors of Vanguard. The work transfers the landscape motif into the interior of the building. It emphasizes the perception of spatial relations, the contrast between imagination and reality.
